  170.   1) = To use this version you must set back the date on your computer.
  171.          If you know of a newer version please let me know!
  172.          Version 3.0 does not have this problem, and is available in the same
  173.          directory as dlview30.zip  .
  174.   2) = With each increase in version, Grasprt has left some older .GL files
  175.          unreadable (incompatible).  The only solution to this problem,
  176.          while still using Grasprt, is to use previous versions. I have
  177.          found v4.0 to be the most reliable, but still find some .GL files
  178.          that won't run with it. On my ftp site you will find several
  179.          versions. I have yet to come across a .GL file that at least one of
  180.          these versions couldn't handle. If your having troubles, try v4.0 .
  181.   3) = Only available with System 7.5, bundled with certain types of
  182.          commercial software packages, or with the QuickTime Software
  183.          Developer's kit from APDA.
  184.          At one time an older version existed on Apple's ftp site, but they
  185.          have since removed it. If you should know of a ftp site where any
  186.          version of QT for the Mac can be found, please e-mail me the info.
  187.   4) = Make sure to type 'bin' when logged on to Microsoft. It appears that
  188.          their WIN NT ftp servers do not properly handle sending files to
  189.          other UNIX type platforms in ascii mode. If you don't, the files
  190.          will be corrupt.
  191.   5) = A few notes about this version: Compuserve is charging $10 US funds
  192.          for it, its illegal to have it on a ftp site, and it can also be
  193.          bundled with certain types of commercial software. There are many
  194.          improvements in this version that make it worth getting.
  195.          An older version, v1.11, is still widely available. Try:
  196.          bitsy.mit.edu /pub/dos/web/helpers                      qtw111.zip
  197.   6) = You must register to receive the latest version, v2.1 . This version
  198.          supports AVI and MOV when 'Video for Windows' and 'QuickTime for
  199.          Windows' are installed.
  200.   
  201.   Most of the sites are of average speed. I tried to look for the fastest ftp
  202. sites that had the software. If you should find a faster site, please e-mail
  203. me the site, directory, and file. I also tried to pick sites that seemed
  204. stable. For example I would not pick a site if the file was in the /incoming
  205. directory, because as we all know it will be deleted eventually.
  206.  
  207.   In place of some of the software versions I had to put the date. Some of the
  208. software gave no evidence of its version number. Thus I may have put the main
  209. executable's date stamp or the official release date given in the
  210. documentation.

  519.  knowledge most people who use graphics on Linux/Unix use X-Windows, thus I am
  520.  not supporting a separate area for either Linux or Unix.  I would, however,
  521.  be interested in adding Linux/Unix if someone were to provide an in-depth,
  522.  correct listing of utilities. No promises, but I would be interested.

  532. VI. Suggested reading material on using FTP through the use of e-mail

  534.    I realize that many people don't have direct access to ftp sites. Thus you
  535.  won't be able to go to the mentioned sites, but this shouldn't stop you from
  536.  getting these files. It is very easy to learn about using FTP through e-mail
  537.  because there are many FAQs and help files available.
  538.    Send e-mail to ftpmail@decwrl.dec.com and within the body of the message
  539.  put the words "help", minus the quotations. This will send you help on how to
  540.  use this site for ftpmail. There are many others besides this one.
  541.    Also send e-mail to mail-server@rtfm.mit.edu and within the body of the
  542.  message put the words "send usenet/news.answers/ftp-list/faq", minus the
  543.  quotations. This will send you the Anonymous FTP FAQ . Check out Section 6

  551.  this FAQ. If you still have questions on any type of graphic utility, please

  553.    After much thought I decided to NOT include a section detailing how to
  554.  use/install the graphic programs. I understand that Video for Windows or
  555.  QuickTime may be tricky to install, but I just don't have the time or
  556.  patience for this task. I would, however, be willing to offer a little help
  557.  to anyone who might want to compile a FAQ on the subject.
